While we specialise in supporting adults with additional learning needs, our courses, workbooks and resources are designed for anyone seeking meaningful, accessible learning. From our CPD-accredited training (in development) to our Inspirational Annual Planner and Journal, and a growing collection of functional skills workbooks, everything we offer is built to empower and uplift. Our Mission and Vision

At Angel Ark Ltd, we understand that traditional methods of teaching maths and English don’t work for everyone—especially for adult learners or those with additional learning needs. That’s why Angela Wilkinson, our founder, began developing her own resources during her time as a full-time Functional Skills tutor and Learning Development Coach. Drawing on both her personal learning journey and professional expertise, Angela created content that simplifies complex concepts and reflects the way her own mind processed these subjects.

Angela has designed and published Level 2 Functional Skills workbooks for both maths and English as well as a very useful maths revision planner - a practical tool for structuring revision time effectively.

All of Angela’s resources are designed to support learners in mastering functional skills and building confidence along the way. They include:

Simplified explanations of tricky concepts, written in plain, learner-friendly language
Numerous worked examples and practice questions to reinforce understanding
Accessible layouts tailored for learners with additional needs, including dyslexia

We genuinely believe these resources provide the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in Functional Skills qualifications. But we know that learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why we also offer support sessions—ideal for learners who may be stuck on a particular topic, or simply need a confidence boost before their exam.

To meet a variety of needs, we offer a flexible range of delivery packages—from one-off exam bookings, to intensive tuition for individuals, to fully customised training solutions for organisations and corporate clients.

At Angel Ark Ltd, we’re passionate about helping learners unlock both their academic potential and personal growth. We are starting to create personal growth resources - the first of which is an inspirational annual planner and journal. This was designed based on Angela's personal experience with often needing to carry 3 or four separate books for each of the functions she was interested in. We will also be creating CPD accredited programmes in personal growth which will be added to our portfolio later this year.

Functional Skills: Your Path to Confidence in Maths & English

What Are Functional Skills?

Functional Skills are practical qualifications in English and Maths that give you the skills you really need for work, study, and everyday life.

They’re widely accepted by employers, colleges, and universities. A Level 2 Functional Skills qualification is equivalent to GCSE grade 4 (C) — meaning they can open doors to apprenticeships, jobs, and further study.

Why Choose Functional Skills?

Many people take Functional Skills because they need:

A qualification to meet job or apprenticeship requirements
Entry onto further study such as college or university
A chance to refresh their skills after time away from learning
More confidence with maths and English in real life

Unlike GCSEs, Functional Skills are focused on practical application—so what you learn is directly useful.

How the Exams Work

✍️ English Functional Skills (Level 2)

You’ll take three exams:

Reading – understanding information, viewpoints, and bias
Writing – producing clear, accurate, and purposeful writing
Speaking, Listening & Communicating – discussions and presenting ideas

➗ Maths Functional Skills (Level 2)

You’ll sit two papers:

Non-calculator
Calculator

Both test how you apply maths in real situations — from budgeting to interpreting graphs.

What You’ll Learn

English Curriculum (Level 2)

Reading: spotting purpose, tone, and viewpoint in texts
Writing: spelling, grammar, punctuation, structure, and adapting style for audience
Speaking & Listening: contributing to discussions, presenting confidently, and responding effectively

Maths Curriculum (Level 2)

The content is streamlined into three key areas:

Number – fractions, percentages, ratio, and calculations
Shape, Space & Measure – area, perimeter, volume, time, and units
Handling Data – graphs, charts, averages, and probability

We have been a member of the CPD Standards Office since 2025 and have passed the rigorous assessment process for our training activities to become an accredited CPD provider.
